LED Light Conversion Project

The City is working with Duke Energy on a City-wide LED light conversion project and we need feedback as to which light option our community prefers.  The details on the light specifications can be found HERE. Samples of the lights can be found on 73rd Avenue between Bay Street and Boca Ciega Drive. Please see map below for exact light locations and types. The goal of this project is to establish a standard light fixture for use in most of the neighborhoods in the City. The current older lights in the City are High Pressure Sodium light fixtures, which are no longer manufactured and are no longer available for use as street lights in the City.

LED Light Map

LIGHT STYLE 1 – 110 Watt Amber LED – Turtle friendly light fixture with a warmer light color than the typical white LED fixture.

LIGHT STYLE 2 – 70 Watt Amber LED – Lower intensity version of the 110 Watt Amber fixture. Also turtle friendly. This light is the closest in color and intensity to the previous generation of High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights currently installed on many City streets.

LIGHT STYLE  3 – 50 Watt White LED – Lowest intensity white LED fixture available from Duke Energy. Brighter light than the Amber fixtures with a larger light throw than the other fixtures.
