Friends of the Library
The Friends of the St. Pete Beach Public Library was formed to promote the welfare of the public library system of St. Pete Beach, to develop and improve all library and cultural facilities within the area, and to provide a forum for educational and cultural projects.
The Friends of the Library Book Store is a great place to find new and used books, DVDs and more! The Book Store is located inside the St. Pete Beach Library and is open during library hours. You’ll find terrific prices, a great selection, and everything organized for easy searching.
The Friends raise more than $10,000 annually from memberships and donations, gift basket silent auctions, and Book Store sales. In turn, the Friends contribute back to the Library, helping fund programs, association memberships, magazine subscriptions, and Library enhancements, and more.
The current Friends organization got its start in 1968 as the Friends of the Long Key Library, which raised more than $26,000 for the "new" Library at its current 365 73rd Avenue location in what was then St. Petersburg Beach. Celebrating 47 years of service to the Community, the "new" St. Pete Beach Library marked its anniversary October 6, 2016.
Meetings of the Friends Board of Directors are held at the Library on the first Thursday every month at 2:30 pm and the Annual Meeting is generally held every October. The current group of Friends numbers more than 140 members and is led by Board President Steve Traiman.
All SPB Library patrons, other residents and visitors are encouraged to join the Friends. Suggested membership levels are:
- Individual $20
- Couple or Family $35
- Business $75
