Stormwater Improvements

Public Works has identified locations throughout the City that experience flooding during rain events and/or high tides. Annual program funding is approved to address local flooding issues. This year three project locations are being addressed.

1. Boca Ciega Isle Drive: a project to install stormwater drainage and a tide flex valve to prevent tidal flooding is scheduled to start late January 2020 and will last for approximately 4 to 5 months. When this project is complete it is still possible that a heavy rainstorm will flood the street during a high tide. The stormwater will recede as the level of the high tide goes down.
2. The Casablanca neighborhood including Casablanca Avenue, 36^th and 37^th Avenues and Maritana Avenue: The seawall at the end of 36th Avenue will be fitted with a tide flex valve to prevent bay water flooding. The seawall at the end of 37th Avenue by the Hotel Zamora will be reconstructed and fitted with a tide flex valve to prevent bay water flooding. When this project is complete it is still possible that a heavy rainstorm will flood the street during a high tide. The stormwater will recede as the level of the high tide goes down. The design and construction of this project is expected to be complete by the end of August 2020.
3. The Don Cesar/Maritana Neighborhood: There are five stormwater drainage locations on E Maritana, S Maritana and W Maritana Drives. All five are under design and review that will include fitting them with tide flex valves to prevent bay water flooding during high tides. The design and construction of this project is expected to be complete by the end of August 2020.
